Indications for hip arthroplasty.

Major conditions that require surgery and replacement of the joint with a prosthesis include:

  • Femoral neck fractures. Due to the complexities of the hip joint structure, conservative methods for such injuries are not effective and surgical intervention is required.
  • Degenerative-dystrophic diseases such as osteoarthritis and arthritis.
  • Congenital dislocation of the hip.

Indications for endoprosthetics can only be given by a qualified orthopedist, taking into account the overall clinical picture, as well as the individual characteristics of the patient.

Examinations before hip replacement.

Preparation for surgical intervention includes:

  • counseling and medical examinations;
  • lab tests;
  • Instrumental examinations of the injured joint, including X-rays, EKG, MRI or CT scan;
  • Consultation with additional specialists in the presence of chronic diseases.

The doctor will then choose a specific method of endoprosthesis and prescribe preparation for the surgery.

Options for hip arthroplasty in Israel

If hip replacement is necessary, hip replacements may be used:

  • A traditional method that involves removing the head of the femur. The course of the surgery involves placing a metal prosthesis with a small head inside the femur bone. A plastic articular surface is mounted into the pelvic bone. A significant disadvantage of this version of the procedure is the large area of removal, as well as damage to the bone. In addition, the plastic surface can wear off quickly, especially with an active lifestyle.
