Treatment methods
Symptoms of the disease
In the initial stage of the disease, symptoms are completely absent. Afterward, the patient begins to notice increased sweating, fatigue, or lethargy. Patients lose appetite and weight. The accumulation of pathologic cells provokes joint pain as well as fever.
In addition, a person may notice:
- decreased immunity and increased frequency of infectious diseases;
- anemia;
- pale skin;
- appearance of rashes on the legs or oral mucosa
- bruising and bleeding.
Stages and causes of the development of the disease
The disease is most often diagnosed in men. And, although the specific causes of the disease have not yet been identified, the risk factor for its occurrence is considered to be exposure to ionizing radiation.
There are three stages in the development of the disease:
- Chronic phase. Occurs in 90% of cases of the disease. At this stage, the proportion of blasts is low and the symptomatology is not pronounced.
- Accelerated Phase. Marks the progression of the disease and an increase in the number of blasts in the bone marrow.
- Explosive Phase. Characterized by a blast count of more than 30%.
Diagnosis of the disease
Only comprehensive examinations and tests help doctors to detect chronic myeloleukosis and start treatment in a timely manner. Among the diagnostic methods:
- General blood work. Allows you to determine the presence of abnormal cells.
- Bone marrow analysis. It’s done with a biopsy
- Cytogenetic tests. Conducted by specialists to clarify the diagnosis, determine the stage of the disease and prognosis of development.
In addition, for comprehensive treatment, specialists determine the general condition of the body and vital organs. An ECG, CT scan, and chest x-ray are used for this purpose.
Based on the results of all tests, specialists plan treatment on a case-by-case basis.
