Crohn’s disease
GastroenterologyCrohn's disease is a chronic bowel disease characterized by an inflammatory process. It covers not only part of the intestine, but also different parts of the GI tract.
Treatment methods
The disease is incurable, but with competent therapy, remission can be achieved. The doctor prescribes drugs to eliminate diarrhea, antibiotics, immunomodulators, corticosteroids.
Genetically engineered biologic drugs are prescribed to take away the symptoms. Thanks to them, the condition of the intestinal mucosa is maintained. Thanks to antibodies, inflammation is suppressed.

Manifestations of Crohn’s disease

What is the nature of Crohn’s disease
There are several theories:
- Genetic – due to mutations in the genes.
- Infectious.
- Immunologic.
The latter is the most studied to date. Because of the autoimmune response, white blood cells attack bacteria, foods, and other substances in the intestinal tract. This leads to inflammation in the intestinal wall.
Diagnosis and treatment
- Blood work.
- Stool analysis (for hidden blood and calprotectin).
- Colonoscopy (allows you to see abscesses on the walls of the intestine).
- Irrigoscopy.
- CT.

The manifestations of Crohn’s disease are nonspecific, so they require special attention in diagnosis.
