Treatment methods
Types of diabetes mellitus
- Type I. For some reason, the body attacks the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. For this reason, its level decreases or it is not produced at all.
- Type II. It appears due to the body’s resistance to insulin. It’s produced, but the cells don’t “take“so the glucose doesn’t get where it needs to go.
It is a very common myth that you can get diabetes because of sugar. The disease of the first type has an autoimmune character, and the second – is a consequence of obesity or other diseases, taking certain medications.
Symptoms
The signs of type I and type II are similar:
- thirst;
- frequent urination;
- increased hunger;
- nausea;
- drowsiness;
- blurred vision.
In the first type, there is a decrease in weight, while in the second type, there is a sharp gain. Type I diabetes develops slowly, it is usually diagnosed in children and adolescents, rarely before the age of 30. But the second type is acquired in adulthood and old age, progresses quite rapidly.
Diagnosis of diabetes mellitus
In Israel at a clinic “MDI” you can get a complete diagnosis for diabetes mellitus. Our doctors will determine the type of disease and prescribe the appropriate therapy.
- Glucose test on an empty stomach.
- Glucose tolerance test.
- Blood chemistry.
- Urinalysis
Your doctor may also prescribe other tests and exams. Consultation with a cardiologist and ophthalmologist is recommended to rule out complications.
Treatment
- For type 1: constant blood sugar control and insulin administration is required. You don’t have to take a lot of shots: you can now put in an insulin pump. The amount of insulin administered is determined by the amount of carbohydrates in the food. Patients keep a diary where they record their meals and sugar levels.
- For type 2: usually does not require insulin injections. The patient is prescribed a diet, medications to lower blood sugar levels, and lifestyle recommendations.
It is completely impossible to cure diabetes of any type, but attention to lifestyle and taking therapy relieves symptoms and allows you to live a normal life without complications.
Complications
High sugar levels affect every system in the body. Diabetes patients who don’t take their medications and ignore recommendations have complications:
- myocardial infarction;
- diabetic retinopathy and blindness;
- stroke;
- renal failure;
- muscle atrophy and paralysis;
- A weak immune system, which increases susceptibility to infections.
Do not ignore the symptoms of diabetes – get highly qualified medical care in the clinic “MDI CLINIC.
