Cancer or dermatitis?

It is not possible to distinguish between skin cancer and dermatitis on your own. As part of the diagnosis, the dermatologist performs a dermatoscopy (examining plaques under a microscope) and a biopsy. The plaque fragment is examined for malignancy. Bowen’s disease progresses to penetrate deeper layers of the skin and form metastases. Therefore, it is important to see a doctor in time and make a diagnosis.

Causes of Bowen’s disease

The main cause is prolonged exposure to the sun and UV rays. Risk factors include skin trauma, lupus erythematosus, and lichen planus. Plaques appear on any parts of the body. The disease is most often diagnosed in people after the age of 65.

An alarming symptom is ulceration of the plaque – this often indicates degeneration into a malignant tumor. Areas of flaking can grow and combine to affect large areas of skin. It becomes not only an aesthetic defect, but also causes discomfort.

Treatment of squamous cell skin cancer

The best treatment method is surgical removal of the foci at the stage when the changes have not penetrated into the deeper layers of the skin. This is more effective than applying ointments or creams. The optimal option of surgery will be chosen by the doctor, taking into account the localization, size and number of foci. After excision, you can get rid of the consequences with cosmetic methods.
