In some situations, adults, mostly after the age of 60, may also experience umbilical hernia. Causes of the problem could be:

  • obesity;
  • pregnancy;
  • ascites.

Previous surgeries are often a factor in the development of umbilical hernia. Unlike children, adults notice the symptoms of the disease: pain in the abdominal area or constipation. In neglected cases, a complication develops – hernia impingement.

The intervention requires only a few punctures of the abdominal skin. At the same time, the diameter of each such puncture is no more than one and a half centimeters. Peculiarities of diagnosing the disease

Umbilical hernia exams can identify the problem as early as the first visual examination by a qualified surgeon. The difficulty arises if the patient is diagnosed with intestinal obstruction. For this purpose, imaging studies such as CT scans are used.

The essence of the diagnosis boils down to the following steps:

  • Initial consultation and palpation of the abdomen. During the exam, the doctor locates the hernia and determines if it can be repositioned in the abdomen. If not, the problem is more serious. It is a case of impingement and immediate medical intervention is required.
  • ULTRASOUND. It is used to determine the size of the hernia, as well as its dislocation, in relation to the abdominal organs.
  • Computed tomography. Designed to detect complications in a timely manner. In this case, specialists scan organs and structures layer by layer using X-rays.
